Tangbo
Surf guide
Tangbo is the reward for the drive. Ninety scenic minutes north of the GL circus on Siargao's quiet northern coast, this mellow A-frame throws both lefts and rights with forgiving take-offs and long, workable faces, and it's so often empty you can score uncrowded waves in the thick of peak season. It's at its best in winter, December to March, when south-to-southeast winds blow it offshore and a north-to-northeast swell lines up; the broader September to January window delivers the standout days. Beginners and improvers will love it on the small-to-medium days, while bigger swells turn it into a punchier intermediate-plus wave. It's a beautiful spot worth the trip surf or no surf, and if you want more bite, look right of Tangbo beach for a hollow right called Barbecue (advanced only). Longboard, mid-length or fish on the mellow days; shortboard when it's punchy. Hazards to watch: the current can rip through the peak on higher tides with decent swell. It's a reef bottom, so booties are smart, and it's remote, limited facilities and a long way from GL if anything goes wrong, so don't surf it alone if you're unsure. Leave Barbecue's hollow, shallow right to experienced surfers. Where it fits: a similar level to Stimpy's with a fraction of the crowd, which makes it a good place to work on turns without an audience. If you are comfortable at Cemetery you will be fine here on a small to medium day. It is the quietest intermediate wave on the island by some distance. Etiquette: this is a small northern community spot, so arrive like a guest. Ask residents politely for directions, park considerately, share the few peaks, and take your rubbish home. Leave Barbecue next door to surfers who know what they are doing.

Wave quality
Good
When the swell hits from the north-northeast and winds are offshore, Tangbo can produce clean, powerful waves with long workable faces. It’s less consistent than the main east-coast breaks but can deliver excellent sessions when the conditions align, especially during the September to January swell season.
Crowd factor
Moderate
Tangbo is located far from General Luna and requires a longer drive, which keeps crowds low. Most sessions have only a few surfers out, and it’s possible to score uncrowded waves even during peak surf season.
How to get there
Tangbo is roughly 45 km north of General Luna, about a scenic 1.5-hour drive along the coast. From GL, head toward Dapa, where you have two options: take the road north through Pacifico and on toward Alegria, or go via Del Carmen toward Santa Monica. Once in Santa Monica, follow local signs or ask residents to point you to Barangay Tangbo's surf spot. Roads are generally good, but drive slowly and carefully. The north coast is rural and scenic, part of the draw. You'll find a few local kubos and small eateries around, but bring water and supplies. It pairs naturally with a north-coast road trip taking in Pacifico and Alegria.
