Pansukyan
Surf guide
Pansukyan is the wave you chase, not the one you stumble onto. Tucked between Daku and Naked Island, this bowl-shaped right wraps off the reef and throws fast, hollow sections that only fire a handful of times a year, and when it does, you'll often be trading waves with no one but your boatman. It needs real swell to break, but catch it on the right east-to-southeast pulse with offshore wind and a high tide and it's one of the most rewarding sessions on the island. Once it's head-high or above it gets serious: quick to stand up, tricky to read, and ledgy enough to keep advanced surfers honest. On the small days instructors bring beginners out for the gentler rolls, and the long reef below is so clear you'll want a mask for the flat spells. Ride a board you can pop up on fast: a regular shortboard once there's punch, a fish or mid-length when it's soft. Hazards to watch: a shallow reef sits right under a quick, bowly take-off, so it's easy to get caught inside or pitched onto dry rock. It's boat-access only with no facilities, and currents run between the islands: go with a boatman who knows the spot, mind your fitness, and booties aren't a bad idea. Where it fits: harder than its size suggests, and best saved until you are comfortable at Stimpy's or Rock Island. It is the quietest wave on this list, and like Guiwan it wants a north or northwest wind, so it comes into play on exactly the days the General Luna side is unsurfable. Etiquette: because it is usually empty, anyone out there has watched the forecast and made the effort to get out. Respect that. Do not burn the locals or the instructors with students, wait your turn on the peak, and take everything you brought back with you.

High tide only. Pansukyan can be surfed an hour either side of high tide.

Upper intermediate to advanced when the swell is head high or above. Barrels and can be tricky due to the shape of the wave.

Pansukyan only comes together a few times a year, but is a great wave with an empty lineup when conditions align.

Pansukyan is generally empty, but if word gets out that conditions were good, then you can expect to see a boat or two there the next day.
How to get there
Pansukyan Reef sits between Daku and Naked Island, roughly 15 to 20 minutes by boat from General Luna. If you're staying around Malinao your resort may sort a boat; otherwise head to the General Luna marketplace where the island-hopping boats leave: expect 350 to 400 PHP per person, plus the environmental fee before departure. The boat needs a minimum of four to six people, so Pansukyan only runs if you can fill it. Ask around at your hostel or pair up with another group. You're right in the island-hopping zone, so it's easy to tie a session in with a stop at Daku, Naked or Guyam. Pack a mask for the reef on the flat spells. General Luna, a short boat back, has the cafés, stays and rentals.
