Swell Cafe and Bar is on Purok 1 in Pacifico, San Isidro, a short walk from Pacifico beach on Siargao's north-east coast. Look for the thatched front, a rack of surfboards and bright wave murals; there's a small shop selling surf wear inside. Most of the crowd is surfers eating before or after a session.
The menu notes that everything except the seafood section is vegan-friendly, which is rare this far north. Smoothie bowls lead the way: Make a Man-go Crazy with mango, banana, house granola, chia and chocolate, or the Green Machine with kale and spirulina. On the savoury side, the burrito bowl with cashew queso and the Chika Cheek'n sandwich, a crisp tofu patty with tahini, pineapple and chipotle mayo, come up again and again in reviews, along with the falafel Buddha bowl and a Filipino plate of tofu sisig with eggplant. Fish and chips use the day's catch. Portions are big.
It opens at 7am daily, closing at 4pm on Mondays and Tuesdays and 9pm the rest of the week. A menu photo shows bowls and mains from about ₱250 to ₱350, with fries from ₱120. Stick to the bowls and shakes rather than the hot drinks, and order the sweet potato fries, whose dipping sauce one reviewer called the best they'd ever had.
