Kawayan Gourmand is a French bakery on the Cloud 9 road in Catangnan, a short walk from the boardwalk and the surf break, next to the Kawayan resort. It was opened in 2017 by David Frachou, who runs Kawayan Villa, and a friend named Pierre, and it still bakes everything on site each morning. Inside is a cool, air-conditioned room with an open kitchen and a counter where you can watch the ovens, plus a few tables out front.
Most people come for the viennoiserie: croissants, the chocolatine (pain au chocolat), éclairs, cinnamon rolls, lemon tart and Paris-Brest. Bread lovers stock up on sourdough, around ₱180 for a round loaf and ₱320 for the larger oval, and baguettes at about ₱60. For lunch there are paninis, a Parma ham and pesto sandwich, croque monsieur and slices of pizza, and a breakfast set pairs a pastry with coffee and juice. The coffee comes from a capsule machine, so keep expectations modest there.
It opens daily from 6am to 6pm, though staff start packing down a little before closing. Pastries sell out, often by mid-afternoon, so go in the morning. Expect to pay ₱150 to ₱500 a person, and bring cash, as cards are not taken.
