Hapag is a large open-air Filipino restaurant at the town end of Tourism Road in General Luna, set under a high thatched roof with long tables and a bar along one side. Hapag is Filipino for the dining table, and the menu reads like a family spread: home-style classics, a short list of chef's specials, plus cocktails, beer and wine.
Sisig is the dish most people order, served sizzling with an egg on top. Crispy pata, lechon kawali, kare-kare, adobo, pork sinigang and beef kansi all come up again and again in reviews, and for seafood there is buttered shrimp and sweet and sour lapu-lapu. Vegetarians can lean on stir-fried kangkong and pinakbet. Finish with leche flan or halo-halo. Most evenings an acoustic band plays, which is fun but can make conversation hard.
Google lists it from 7am to 3am Tuesday to Sunday and from noon to 10pm on Mondays, so it covers a silog breakfast, with daing na bangus a morning favourite, as well as late food after a night out. Plan on roughly ₱500 to ₱1,000 per person with drinks, a step up from the carinderias. Come before 7pm on band nights if you want a quieter table.
