Dapa Travel Guide – Siargao's Port, Ferries & Arrival Town

Dapa is the main port town on Siargao and, for many travellers, the first place they set foot on the island. Ferries from Surigao on the mainland dock here, and it’s about 20 minutes by road from General Luna.

It isn’t a tourist town — it’s where locals do their banking, shopping, and shipping. That makes it the practical heart of the island: the biggest market, the most reliable ATMs, hardware and motorcycle shops, and the ferry links to the mainland and to Bucas Grande.

Most visitors pass straight through Dapa on the way to the south, and that’s fine — there’s little reason to base a holiday here. But knowing how Dapa works makes arriving, stocking up, and day-tripping much smoother.

Think of Dapa as the island’s front door and supply room rather than a destination in itself.

Everyone arriving by ferry passes through Dapa, so the real question is whether to linger. It’s worth a stop if you need cash, a proper supermarket, or are catching a boat to Socorro and Sohoton Cove.

It’s not a beach or surf base, and there’s no nightlife or visitor scene. If you want sand, surf, and restaurants, head straight to General Luna and treat Dapa as a transit and errands stop.

By ferry from Surigao. Dapa Port is the main sea gateway to Siargao. Ferries and fast craft run daily from Surigao City on the mainland, taking roughly 2.5–4 hours depending on the vessel and sea conditions.

From Sayak Airport (Del Carmen). If you fly in, Dapa is about 45 minutes south by road — though most air arrivals skip it and go straight to General Luna.

From General Luna. Dapa is a 20-minute ride. A tricycle costs around ₱250–300 (or ₱50 shared), and vans and habal-habal also run the route.

Dapa town is compact and walkable — the market, banks, and shops sit close together near the port. For anything beyond the centre, tricycles are everywhere and cheap.

If you’re heading on to General Luna or exploring further, the easiest option is your own transport. Rent a motorbike or car through Koobo so you’re not reliant on tricycles for every trip.

Accommodation in Dapa is limited to a few basic guesthouses and inns aimed at travellers with early ferries or business in town. It’s functional rather than scenic.

Almost everyone stays in the south instead. Unless you have a dawn boat to catch, browse places to stay in General Luna for the island’s full range of rooms.

Dapa is a good place to eat like a local. The public market sells cheap, fresh food, and the town is known for grilled seafood and fish straight off the boats — far less polished than General Luna, but authentic and inexpensive.

Stock up. Dapa has the island’s biggest market and most reliable ATMs and supermarkets — the place to load up on cash and supplies before heading to quieter areas.

Dapa itself isn’t a surf town, but it’s close to one of the island’s best beginner waves. Secret Beach (Guiwan) is about 20 minutes away on the road toward General Luna, with gentle, uncrowded waves ideal for first-timers.

Because Dapa is about logistics rather than weather, any time works — but the dry season (March to November) means calmer ferry crossings from Surigao and smoother roads.

If you’re arriving by sea, check the ferry schedule ahead and aim for a daytime crossing; sea conditions are rougher in the wet season (December to February), and trips can be delayed or cancelled.

Market days bring more bustle to town, which is great for food and people-watching but busier for errands.

Get cash here. Dapa has the island’s most reliable ATMs. Withdraw what you need before heading to General Luna or the north, where machines often run dry.

Check ferry times. Confirm Surigao–Dapa schedules in advance and arrive early, especially in peak season and around holidays when boats fill up.

Stock up. The supermarket and market here are the best on the island for supplies, medicines, and hardware — cheaper and better stocked than the south.

Onward transport. Tricycles wait at the port for General Luna; agree the fare before you set off.
