Tunahan Ni Jendon is an open-air tuna grill on the Mati Baywalk, in the strip of small food spots and shops just north of La-ne's and the Seaside empanada counter. Tunahan means tuna place, and the setup is simple: the grill is in full view, the fish is sold by size, and you eat with the evening breeze off Pujada Bay.
Grilled tuna panga (jaw) is the order, charred outside and tender inside, alongside tuna belly, grilled pompano and a bowl of kinilaw while you wait. The kitchen does not serve pork, so the rest of the menu is chicken and fish with rice by the cup. On some weekends a live band has played from around 7:00 PM.
Open daily from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM. In 2023 a forearm-length tuna jaw was ₱365, and a tuna jaw, small pompano, kinilaw and three cups of rice came to ₱665, which makes it good value for a group. One recent diner said cleanliness could be better. Come around sunset, pick your tuna by size at the grill, and order the kinilaw while it cooks.
