Home Brew Cafe is the cafe arm of Quality Bread, on the Surigao to Davao Coastal Road in Martinez Subdivision, Barangay Dahican, directly across from the Subangan Museum. It is the handiest coffee stop on the drive between the city proper and Dahican Beach, with an artsy, air-conditioned room, a bakery counter and parking out front.
Coffee is the steady draw, from espresso and cappuccino to caramel frappes, and the blueberry cheesecake is the dessert regulars name. The kitchen runs a full menu too: longsilog breakfasts, a spaghetti that reviewers rate highly, chicken sandwiches, salads, fries and burgers. Sticky rice suman with sikwati, the thick local hot chocolate, has long been a house favourite. Skip the halo-halo, which recent visitors found watery.
Hours are 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM on weekdays and 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM on weekends, and most people spend under ₱500. The room is small and fills up at peak times, and road noise carries. Power outlets and WiFi make it a decent work stop, so come mid-morning and ask for the WiFi password at the counter.
