Coast Call Kitchen and Bar is the open-air restaurant of San Juan Surf Resort at 238 Urbiztondo, on the beach side of the main surf strip, with a short walkway from the dining area onto the sand. It opened in December 2014 cooking Filipino comfort food from family recipes, and it serves walk-in diners as well as resort guests.
Breakfast is the strongest meal here. Beef tapa, Vigan longganisa, daing na bangus and tocino come with a sharp house vinegar that regulars ask about, and the coffee gets good words too. Later in the day the menu turns to Ilocano and Pinoy standards: pinakbet Iloko, sinigang, pork sisig, relyenong talong, lechon kawali, crispy pata and stuffed squid off the grill. Groups do best with the salo-salo sets, which come with rice and a pitcher of iced tea. Fruit shakes and halo-halo cool things down. Reviews are mixed on seasoning, and the pizzas get the least love.
Coast Call is open daily from 7AM to 10PM. On the current menu, salo-salo sets for three or four cost ₱1,650 to ₱1,995, and the Intuno and Fiesta spreads for six to eight are ₱3,395 to ₱3,695. There's a big car park, free WiFi and a small playground. Come for breakfast and grab a front table to watch the morning surf lessons.
