What should I prepare before guest arrival?

A few days before

Send directions. The most useful thing you can do. Address, a landmark, rough travel time from Sayak Airport or Dapa port, and your number for the day. Do this two or three days out, when the guest is thinking about logistics.

Confirm arrival time. Flights into Siargao shift, and knowing roughly when they will appear saves everyone waiting around.

The day before

Clean properly, including the parts guests notice and hosts stop seeing: under the bed, the shower drain, the inside of the fridge.

Check everything works. Lights, fans, air conditioning, hot water, wifi, locks. Test the wifi speed yourself rather than assuming.

Check consumables. Toilet paper, soap, drinking water, gas if there is a kitchen.

Power and water. Interruptions happen on the island. If you have a backup, make sure it works and that the guest knows how to use it.

For activities

Confirm the meeting point and time, check equipment and safety gear, and have a plan for poor weather. Tell the guest in advance what happens if conditions cancel the trip.

For rentals

Check the vehicle over: brakes, lights, tyres, fuel. Photograph existing damage with the timestamp on, so the condition at handover is documented. Have the helmet ready, and be clear about what licence you need to see.

On arrival day

Be reachable. If you cannot meet them yourself, make sure whoever does knows the details and that the guest knows who to expect.

Small things with outsized effect

Cold water and somewhere shaded to sit after a long journey. A note with the wifi password rather than making them ask. A rough idea of where to eat nearby.

What prevents most bad reviews

Almost every poor review traces back to either something that did not work and could have been checked, or something the guest was not told. Twenty minutes of checking and one message in advance prevents the majority of them.
