Siargao's airport is Sayak Airport (IAO), in Del Carmen on the west side of the island. Almost all accommodation is on the east side around General Luna, so you have a transfer of roughly 45 minutes to an hour ahead of you.
Your options
Shared van. Vans meet every arriving flight and drop passengers around General Luna and Catangnan. The cheapest option, and you leave once the van fills. Expect to wait a little and to make a few stops before yours.
Private transfer. A van or car for your group only, leaving straight away and taking you directly to your door. Worth it if you are arriving late, travelling with children, or carrying board bags.
Pre-booked transfer through Koobo. You can book an airport transfer as an activity on Koobo before you fly. The driver is there when you land, the price is fixed and paid upfront, and there is no negotiating after a long travel day.
Habal-habal. A motorbike taxi. Cheap and quick if you are travelling light with a single small bag. Not practical with luggage or a surfboard.
What to expect on arrival
Sayak is a small airport and the arrivals area is compact. Drivers wait just outside. If you have pre-booked, look for your name on a sign.
Mobile signal is reasonable at the airport but patchy on parts of the drive, so arrange your transfer before you land rather than assuming you can call from the road.
Bring cash
Transfer drivers are generally cash only, in pesos. There is no reliable ATM at the airport, so arrive with pesos already in hand. Bringing them from Manila or Cebu is the safest approach.
Arriving by ferry instead
If you come by boat from Surigao City, you arrive at Dapa port on the southwest coast, about 40 minutes from General Luna. The same options apply: vans and habal-habal meet the boats.
Board bags
Tell your driver in advance if you are bringing a surfboard. Not every vehicle can take one.
